We recommend doing your research while waiting for approval. Once approved and you’ve received your approval letter, you can start shopping at any of the authorized dealerships to select a vehicle and submit a check request.

No. Your new vehicle options are plug-in hybrid and fully electric.

Yes, but only NEW vehicles from the eligibility list can be leased under this program. The lease period must be a minimum of 30-month lease term. Used vehicles are not eligible.

Yes! You can purchase a used vehicle as your replacement vehicle as long as it meets the program requirements — it must be a 2018 or newer model with low mileage. You also have the option to choose a brand-new car instead if you prefer.

Yes! There are now plug-in hybrid and electric pickup trucks, Jeeps and mini-vans!

Once approved, one of our Vehicle Purchase Consultants will be in touch to assist you through this stage of the program.

You have the option to replace your vehicle with a qualified E-Bike or transit pass.

We encourage you to research the dealership you are interested in. Once approved, you will be assigned a Vehicle Purchase Consultant to assist you through the Vehicle Selection stage of the program.

Once you’ve selected a vehicle and the dealership has submitted the check request, we will monitor the vehicle for any active recalls throughout the process. If there is a recall, you will be notified and work with the dealership for a resolution.

No, it is entirely up to you what additional options you want to include in your vehicle purchase.

We encourage you to take a few minutes to explore your warranty options before buying. Understanding the difference now can help you avoid pressure at the dealership and make a more confident decision.

No. Like any vehicle purchase, repairs and maintenance are the responsibility of the vehicle owner.

Dealerships often offer extended warranties, but in California, you also have the option to purchase Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI) from licensed insurance providers.

You might consider asking your auto insurance provider if they offer MBI—it can be a flexible and potentially more affordable alternative.

Every vehicle selection is confirmed that it meets program eligibility. Once the check request is submitted, it can take from 2 to 4 weeks for the check to be approved and distributed. Once we have the check in hand, we will be in touch to schedule the final transaction.

Once a replacement vehicle has been selected, changing vehicles (VIN) and/or dealership will result in significant delays.

No, there is no obligation to finance with the dealership. You choose who to finance with or pay the remaining balance in the way that works best for you.

While Valley CAN does not help make the monthly payments, our Loan Department can help you step by step in applying for an auto loan through our partnership with Self-Help Federal Credit Union.

Self-Help offers competitive rates, understands the timing of this program, and offers an interest rate reduction of 0.25% – 0.50% for vehicles that are plug-in hybrid or fully electric vehicles if certain criteria is met.

Please check with the dealership or bank you are working with and ask if they have a pre-payment penalty. Paying off your vehicle loan early does not affect your agreement with Valley CAN.

Used Vehicles:

• 3-day minimum return period.
• Please verify with the dealership if they offer an extended return policy after 3 days.

New Vehicles:

• Have NO return period.
• Please verify with dealership if they offer a return option on a NEW vehicle.

Once your appointment has been set, a confirmation email and/or text will be sent. You will need your Title, keys and the vehicle you are retiring. Please have all personal items removed from the vehicle.

If you have PG&E Electric:

Pre-Owned electric vehicles may qualify for up to a $4,000 rebate.

*You must reside at an address that PG&E covers and be a current customer.
