Consumers may apply for assistance of up to $500 toward emissions-related repairs of their participating vehicle. The purpose of this program is to help cover the cost of repairs needed to pass the California Smog Check and to reduce air pollution in the San Joaquin Valley.

Vehicle Eligibility
The participating vehicle must meet all the following criteria:
- Currently registered, currently delinquent in registration renewal with the California DMV in California, or Registered as Planned Non-Operational (PNO)
- Gasoline-powered light- or medium-duty vehicle
- Operational, testable, and capable of undergoing a Smog Check inspection
- Not eligible for manufacturer’s warranty, extended warranty, or subject to an open emissions recall
- Has not used a Tune In Tune Up voucher for repairs in the past 12 months
The following vehicles are not eligible:
- Vehicles with GVWR greater than 14,000 lbs.
- Diesel vehicles
- Full electric vehicles (EVs)
Vehicle Ownership
The registered vehicle owner must:
- Be an individual, nonprofit, or small business located within the San Joaquin Valley
- Not be engaged in the business of purchasing and selling vehicles
- Agree to all program terms and conditions before receiving a voucher
- Understand that the administrator reserves the right to limit the number of vehicles an applicant may enter the program
Vehicles in the title-transfer process may qualify if documentation shows attempt to register (e.g., “incomplete application” status).
Program Conditions
By accepting program assistance, the consumer agrees to the following:
- Participate in a random follow-up emissions test at no cost
- Ensure the vehicle has no missing, tampered, or modified parts required for testing at a STAR-certified smog shop (otherwise the vehicle may be disqualified)
- Understand that guidelines are subject to amendment by the program administrator
Data & Privacy Consent
By redeeming this electronic voucher, the consumer provides express written consent to the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District and its agents (administrator) to:
- Capture, use, and study application and vehicle emissions data
- Report and disclose data to third parties as allowable under law
- Retain data for program oversight, evaluation, and compliance purposes

Media Release
By participating in the Tune In & Tune Up program, the consumer grants permission to Valley CAN and its representatives to use photographs and/or video taken at events for publications, news releases, online, and other communications related to Valley CAN’s mission.
Legal Declaration
By redeeming an electronic voucher, the consumer declares under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of California that the information provided in their Consumer Application is true and correct.
